Success Story

Troy Strom
Business Banker

Troy Strom is a man dedicated to his community. Happily, he now calls Norfolk his home. But the third-generation Nebraskan left the state for four years to further his career. A Bloomfield native, Strom graduated from Wayne State College with a bachelor’s degree that prepared him for an 11-year career as a public administrator working primarily in the field of economic development. Strom’s job moved him throughout Nebraska. Eventually, he and his wife, Pat, who is a Wausa native, moved to Pipestone, Minn.

Strom said he sees many similarities between the two states: they’re both heavily agricultural based, they both are Midwestern states and they both have friendly people. Strom said Minnesota is an interesting place to live, an environmentally conscientious place, with immense recreational and entertainment opportunities. Strom said he also appreciated life without a state sales tax, like Nebraska has. He acknowledges that his family enjoyed weekends fishing and swimming. But even the immense opportunity for outdoor activity, he said, couldn’t ultimately keep him away from Nebraska and longings to be near family.

Three years ago, Strom could no longer deny the urge. He and his family returned to Northeast Nebraska and began his current job as a business banker at Wells Fargo in downtown Norfolk. Strom noticed some changes had taken place in Norfolk, including housing and economic development, and a large hospital expansion. Often, when residents of a community haven’t moved away, they don’t notice those positive developments as easily.

Although he hasn’t adjusted to the fact that most of his peers, like himself, were becoming parents, Strom says he’s enjoyed re-establishing relationships with many of his friends from back in high school and college. Strom says his goal right now is to continually grow within Wells Fargo and the Norfolk community.

“I love my job at Wells Fargo,” he said, “Getting to met new people, and knowing that I’ve helped them reach their business goals is rewarding.”

And he’s excited about the direction Norfolk is going. “Norfolk has shown initiative and demonstrated enthusiasm to be progressive economically,” Strom said “It’s exciting to be a member of a community that has that goal in mind.”
